Shaping our views

From the May 2013 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What shape is your church in?

Sometimes the answer makes us feel good; other times, not so good. I’ve found that when the latter is the case, it’s helpful to examine who it is that shapes our church, and what shape our thoughts are taking about Church.

One place to start is with the Icelandic translation of Genesis 1:26, which Mary Baker Eddy refers to in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, where God is recognized as The Great Shaper: “And God said, Let us make man after our mind and our likeness; and God shaped man after His mind; after God’s mind shaped He him; and He shaped them male and female” (p. 525).
