Why does it take so long to reach the stage where I am asked by others to pray for them?

From the May 2015 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Q: Why does it take so long to reach the stage in my practice of Christian Science where I am regularly asked by others to pray for them? I would love to help people this way.

A: Christ Jesus guides all who want to practice Christian Science more widely with his words, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32). The people who came to Jesus for healing were drawn by the Christ—“… his divine nature, the godliness which animated him” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 26).

Christ Jesus is the example for today’s practitioner of Christian healing because he proved that God’s spiritual and immortal man is the true selfhood of each of us. We want to get more and more acquainted with this man—to be lifted up from a mortal sense of man, from the man “of the earth, earthy” (I Corinthians 15:47) to an understanding of everyone’s true identity as God’s beloved child. This spiritual altitude of thought will draw to us all those who long for healing.
