It is wonderful to know that through Christian Science we learn that God not only comforts but also heals sorrow and grief.
I was very close to my father, and I could not imagine life without him. Early in my practice of Christian Science, I read an article in the Journal in which a young woman told a Christian Science practitioner that she feared the passing of a loved one. The practitioner comforted her, saying in effect, “If such a thing should happen, your understanding of Christian Science will empower you to meet the challenge.” I had been fearful over how I would cope if my father passed on, so this message was of great comfort to me.
Around the same time, a friend who was also a practitioner referred me to Hymn 81 in the Christian Science Hymnal, the first verse of which reads:
