A few months ago I was at a Wednesday testimony meeting at The Mother Church, and the readings centered on the theme of following God. But as I listened, I realized there was another dimension to the message, as well. While it included much about being a good follower, it also included passages that brought out qualities of God’s leading. I wrote down some of those passages that stood out to me. They described how God communicates spiritual ideas and thoughts that can lead humanity in the way of Truth—with qualities such as trustworthiness, righteousness, strength, mercy, wisdom, and grace.
It occurred to me that as we become better followers of God’s leading—through listening to God and understanding that we are the spiritual reflection of God—then we reflect the qualities of God’s leading in our lives, which can lead others in the direction of spiritual truth.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, followed God’s leading throughout her life. As a young child in Puritan New England, she and her family daily prayed and read from the Bible. These early experiences stayed with her in adulthood when she suffered from chronic illness and turned to her Bible for comfort.
