Spiritual Short

Refuse to accept the distorted view

From the July 2018 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In studying the Bible, I have learned that man’s perfection as a child of God is eternal and unchanging.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes, “The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God” (p. 475). We are God’s children, and He knows us as spiritual, perfect, and eternal. The struggles we face can be seen as a distorted view that appears to mortal sense. And by understanding the truth about God’s man in Christian Science, we see ourselves set free.

Science and Health explains that the mortal view is a “misapprehension.” It says, “As a material, theoretical life-basis is found to be a misapprehension of existence, the spiritual and divine Principle of man dawns upon human thought, and leads it to ‘where the young child was,’—even to the birth of a new-old idea, to the spiritual sense of being and of what Life includes” (p. 191).
