Testimonies of Healing

Goiter gone

From the September 2018 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I want to express my gratitude for the many healings I have had through the study of Christian Science. One particularly outstanding healing took place a number of years ago. My husband and I decided to look into adopting a child and found that I was first required to have a physical examination. The doctor found a swelling, called a goiter, which he said would require surgery. As I was leaving his office, he said he could not sign my adoption application because without an operation I would die, and then what would become of the child?

I never considered having an operation, but I was very frightened. As soon as I got home, I called my mother, who was a Christian Science practitioner. I asked her for help in overcoming this condition, and she agreed to pray for me. One Bible citation that was a great comfort to me was, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord” (Psalms 118:17).

In addition to prayerful help from my mother, I studied and prayed on my own. It became clear to me that God’s work was done, and it was perfect. On page 206 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes, “Is God creating anew what He has already created? The Scriptures are definite on this point, declaring that His work was finished, nothing is new to God, and that it was good.” And in Ecclesiastes 3:14 we read, “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it.”
