A few years ago a very painful, hard bump began to develop at a joint on one of my fingers, disfiguring the finger and bending it to the side.
At first, thoughts flooded in suggesting the inevitability of aging, such as, “Well, you’re at an age when things like this show up, and you should expect this to happen.” Also, “The passing years never come alone,” a familiar expression.
But I have learned something very different in Christian Science. Many years ago when I began to study its teachings, God was introduced to me as almighty and eternal, and man (meaning all men and women) as the reflection or idea of God, having a wholly spiritual identity that is untouched by time or age. It was extraordinary to find out that not only is God our Father and Mother, but we are one with God. In other words, we are inseparable as Father-Mother and child, coexisting as divine Mind and idea, in perfect harmony, in all ways and forever.
