So appreciate …
[Christine Jenks Driessen, “Mental health beyond the brain,” Journal, September 2019]
I so appreciate the understanding with which this article was written. “Principle is not to be found in fragmentary ideas” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 302) is fundamental to another article written on this same topic, which I revisit occasionally (see Rose M. Henniker-Heaton, “The unfragmented Ego,” Journal, February 1975).

Practice instead of habit
As I read “How much of this magazine do I need to read?” by Susan Stark in the August 2019 Journal, I realized just how guilty I used to feel about not getting to the church periodicals. I was learning about habits and realized the habit I hadn’t developed was reading them—I did subscribe, so it wasn’t like I didn’t have access. I just didn’t think I had the time.
I turned the reading of the periodicals into a practice instead of a habit. Now my practice of reading the Journal is an article a day (Monday–Friday) during the issue month. Yes, there are times when I am behind those around me, but what a joy it is to pick up this magazine each day and appreciate the love expressed by those that write for these magazines.
Some months when I run out of Journal articles before the end of the month, I still read an article a day from other publications that I have wanted to read (e.g., the Anthology series).
I have the good fortune of a train commute, which means that Tuesday rides are my time with the Christian Science Sentinel. The Christian Science Monitor is my afternoon companion. On these train rides I have to be alert not to overshoot my stop!
Habit stacking or a practice, whatever it might be called, it’s a special time to commune with these periodicals and our global community.

So relevant
[Richard Gates, “Our true ancestry,” Journal, July 2019]
I thoroughly enjoyed this article and found it so relevant, as there is indeed much discussion about ancestry, in the media, in society, in families. The ideas are expressed so clearly, and I relished the quotations from the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s writings. Excellent! My thanks to the author and to the Journal.
And I am so grateful that all articles can now be listened to as well as read. A real blessing.
