Of Good Report

From ‘What do I say?’ in the Reading Room, to ‘Thank you, God’

From the December 2019 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have worked in Christian Science Reading Rooms for many years and enjoy the adventure of connecting with all kinds of people. Through my many conversations with those who walk through the door, I’ve learned so much about God’s goodness and love.

One day I was serving at the Reading Room when a young man came in. Usually I immediately greet whoever walks in, but this time I felt hesitant. Lots of thoughts assailed me, such as: “He and I have nothing in common—I am older and he is young; I am white and he is black. And what’s more, he might think that I am boring and obsolete!” I wanted to hide; my fear was, what would I say? I couldn’t seem to think of anything.

But for a moment I turned away from all those thoughts and asked God what to do. And that’s when an angel message straight from God said: “Approach him with childlikeness.” I’ve found that approaching others with childlikeness is so powerful.
