I had a very challenging career in the media that included managing people in many offices across the country. When I married and moved to the suburbs, I needed to commute two hours to my Chicago office in the morning and two hours back each evening—in addition to the extensive air travel required for my work.
After a year of this arduous schedule, I began to have difficulty catching my breath. At times in my office and even during church services, I would feel suffocated and gasp for air. I also experienced heart palpitations, and at times my heart would race uncontrollably.
Recalling that one of my relatives had passed on from a heart condition with similar symptoms, I was quite fearful. I prayed on my own for a while, but when the difficulty became more aggressive, I contacted a Christian Science practitioner for prayer treatment.
