Yielding to God’s authority

From the May 2021 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus said, “The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” (John 5:19).

Jesus didn’t say that he could do nothing, but that without his heavenly Father he had no power. He made it clear that God was the authority for his words and works. And as we read in Matthew, “He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes” (7:29).

Just as Jesus’ reliance on God’s goodness and power enabled him to heal, today Christian Science shows us how we can rely on an understanding of God’s supreme authority to heal ourselves and others.
