Some time ago a growth appeared on my neck. As it became more visible, I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me.
Although I was not overtly afraid, I knew from my study of Christian Science that fear is the foundation of disease, and success in spiritual healing depends on eliminating even latent fear. In fact, that’s the first priority in Christian Science treatment. It tells us in the Bible, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear” (I John 4:18). That idea needed to be reinforced for me.
It occurred to me that when God was charging Moses with the responsibility of asking Pharaoh to free the children of Israel from Egypt, Moses must have felt afraid. Then, he must have felt tremendous fear when he saw his hand full of leprosy. Moses had been ordered by God to bring this hand close to his body. But his obedience to God proved that no matter how real the disease appeared, it was unreal, because disease is never of God. And the leprosy then disappeared (see Exodus 4:6, 7).
