In the spring of 2021, I was on a run in my new neighborhood when I tripped and fell. Several people stopped to check on me, and I assured them I was fine. When I tried to stand, however, I felt a great deal of pain in one of my legs and immediately had to sit down again.
I remembered a passage from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy that says in part, man “will find himself unfallen, upright, pure, and free” (p. 171). As I sat on the sidewalk, I closed my eyes and quietly repeated this phrase to myself, affirming that, as God’s reflection, I am unfallen, upright, pure, and free. After a few moments I was able to stand and walk home.
At home, I was still struggling to put weight on my leg and decided to call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. She reminded me that there was never a moment when I was not in the kingdom of heaven—in God’s loving care.
