My heart is filled with gratitude for all the blessings I’ve gained through the light that Christian Science has brought to my life. One example of this is a quick recovery from a forehead injury.
I was hurriedly preparing for visitors who were going to briefly stop by my home, and as I was taking some items to the basement, I tripped and fell, hitting my forehead hard against a brick chimney. I was able to get up, but soon felt as though I was going to faint. My phone was already in the basement, and I called a relative who is a Christian Scientist for support through prayer. She began voicing spiritual truths, assuring me that I was a child of God, that God’s love was all around me, and that I was cared for in that love.
I listened intently to all that she was sharing with such love and great conviction. Because I’d experienced and was aware of many instances of healing and protection through prayer in Christian Science, I knew that hearing these truths was what I needed. Listening with deep trust in God, I slowly made my way back up two flights of stairs, stopping whenever there was a strong feeling I might faint. Thoughts of God—divine Truth and Love—filled my consciousness, displacing shock, fear, and pain. After some minutes I felt stable enough to get off the phone.
I gently washed the scraped areas, including in and around one eyebrow. Then I finished preparing for the visit, which went fine. Later that night, I prayed, acknowledging that the incident had never happened in God’s kingdom, that I’m not material but spiritual, and that there can be “no lapse from nor return to harmony” in God’s creation (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 471).
I was able to continue my normal activities and covered the injured areas as best I could with makeup. I also continued praying, and within a few days the bump on my forehead was gone. Over the next weeks, bruising and other signs of injury disappeared and my eyebrow grew back normally. There have been no lingering effects.
I’m tremendously grateful for the example set by Christ Jesus and for the revelation that Mrs. Eddy gave to mankind. I’m also grateful for all those who are learning about Christian Science and those who are devotedly practicing it, including the relative I reached out to that day.
