You may have wondered, What’s with the massive decline of houses of worship in the United States—and almost everywhere in the West?
In 2021, the Gallup polling organization reported that American membership in houses of worship had dropped below 50% for the first time since they began measuring it in 1937, when it was at 73%. Membership numbers stayed near that level until the beginning of the 21st century, when they started to decline steadily.
