I remember the first time I washed feet. In my early teens, I’d been asked to help take care of my grandma whom I was living with at the time.
I loved my grandma and wanted to help her, so I agreed to be trained by a Christian Science nurse, who showed me how to help with my grandma’s personal care when the nurse couldn’t be there to do it. At first, this felt awkward and embarrassing because I was not used to giving this type of care. My grandma was also critical of my efforts at times, and that didn’t help with my confidence in helping her. But every day I came home from school and spent hours with her, taking care of her and reading the Christian Science periodicals and the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly to her.
Learning to be a caregiver for my grandma taught me a lot about divine Love.
