The liberty of God’s love

From the May 2025 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Throughout my life, I have experienced many wonderful healings. I grew up with Christian Science and my mother is a Christian Science practitioner. So I had the great privilege of learning from childhood on that I can always rely on God no matter what, that I am never separate from Him because I am His image and likeness, and that this connection to God is unbreakable. Mary Baker Eddy writes in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Man is, and forever has been, God’s reflection. God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence” (p. 471).

A healing I experienced that changed my life profoundly occurred during a trip to Australia I took after graduating from high school—a trip I had dreamed of taking since I was a child.

At the beginning of the trip, I felt a deep need to change my concept of myself and to better understand my connection to God. At that time I was struggling with a lot of self-loathing and self-condemnation. I didn’t have a lot of self-confidence, often criticized my own behavior and appearance, and generally wasn’t very happy with myself. In other words, I had a perception of myself as being something very far from God’s reflection.
