Dear Friend,
“Is church essential to the healing practice of Christian Science?” As I pondered this question, posed in the very first article of this Journal issue, a sweet memory surfaced. I was fourteen, the age at which I was allowed to join my local branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and I was in the church’s boardroom answering the thoughtful questions the membership committee was asking me. I remember because it was such a milestone in my life.
That particular question about church is not one I was asked at the interview, but the answer was the reason I had eagerly applied for church membership as soon as I was eligible. Even then, I had the sense that church was indeed essential to my practice of the Science I so loved.
