Change in Editor of the Christian Science periodicals

From the March 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At the end of March 2026, Ethel Baker, CSB, will be leaving her position as Editor of The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and Herald (JSH), to return to her home in Buffalo, New York, to focus full time on the Christian Science practice and teaching, and to more actively contribute to her branch church. We owe Ethel a debt of gratitude for her decades of devoted service to The Mother Church. In addition to her role as Editor, she previously held positions in the Office of the Committee on Publication, The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy, Reading Room Communications, and Local Activities of The Mother Church.

Looking back on her almost six years as Editor of the Church’s periodicals, Ethel recently commented: “It has been a precious time to be working on these indispensable periodicals, in all their forms—and with an enormously dedicated group of fellow Christian Scientists in Boston—and to connect with so many contributors and readers around the world. I feel certain the participation in and reach of these publications will only expand in the years ahead. And I will continue to contribute!”

We are happy to announce that the new Editor for JSH will be Lisa Rennie Sytsma, CSB, who has been serving as Associate Editor for the Journal for the last two-plus years. Prior to coming to Boston in 2023, Lisa was a longtime Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner in Denver, Colorado, before becoming a Christian Science teacher. She was also active in her branch church. Lisa shared, “It has been an honor and a privilege to experience the love and commitment of the wonderful staff at Journal, Sentinel, and Herald. I look forward to continuing to work side by side with them, with our contributors, and with our readers to let the light of Christ shine ever more vividly through the organs of our Church, so everyone, everywhere, can feel that healing light.”
