One day many years ago when my sons were preteens, we met up with my sister and her children for a day of swimming at a water park. It was then that my sister noticed a black spot on the outer calf of one of my legs. She thought it was a spider. I love spiders but I didn’t like what I saw; it was not a spider but a black growth. I was extremely fearful. In the days ahead it kept growing and growing and manifesting other disturbing signs.
What helped sustain me at this time was my great trust in God following my husband’s earlier healing of alcoholism through Christian Science treatment (see Arnold “Judge” Wynecoop, “Healed of alcoholism,” Christian Science Sentinel, September 14, 2009). I was confident that God could heal this physical condition, as well. And so, I called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, the first of four wonderful practitioners I called on for prayer at different times in the two years that followed. Each practitioner taught me so much about Christian Science healing. I treasure each one for their uplifting presence in my life.
The healing required persistence in prayer, the discipline of turning away from the alarming picture of disease and accepting as true my God-given perfection. I began losing weight and there were times when I couldn’t even make it up the stairs to bed.
