Organizing public lectures in creative ways

From the August 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal


The Manual of The Mother Church says, “The Mother Church and the branch churches shall call on the Board of Lectureship annually for one or more lectures” (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 95). The Christian Science Board of Lectureship trains and maintains a list of capable speakers on a variety of topics, all geared toward giving the general public a basic or better understanding of Christian Science and its Discoverer, Mary Baker Eddy. A key question then becomes: Where are the public audiences for our lectures?

Here are three examples of Christian Science lecturers speaking to specific groups at venues that were also open to the general public:

A Christian Science lecturer participated in a panel discussion at the local city hall on so-called alternative health care, along with a moderator and a local chiropractor.
