Poem

Daily bread

From the September 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal

September Interlude

Dear Mother God,

ever giving,
what is Your gift for this day?

You are Life
and You give me my being,
eternal with You,
nourished in timeless
moments
by tireless Love
with morsels from
Truth
rightsized for my
day.

Today I need not know
all eternity—
whence every blessing flows,
every goodness in
Your heavenly treasure
trove—
I only need my daily
guided step—
the joy of forward
going
on eternity’s
way.

And with that travel Spiritward,
my hand in Yours, dear Mother
God,
I receive this daily bread—
Love infinite
filling my moments
with lovingkindness and
tender mercies.

Then, with baskets full
with the Christly word—
“Love one another”—
I go forth and share
Truth verified
by healed hearts and
health restored.

And know, as Jesus said,
“Whatsoever ye shall ask the
Father in my name,
he will give it you.”John 16:23

Dear Mother-Father, God supreme,
thank you for my daily bread.
