FROM THE DIRECTORS The Christian Science Board of Directors appreciates the opportunity to acquire original letters by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, or by her secretaries, as well as books and other historical material bearing her signature. The Board of Directors welcomes information regarding such items.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE PRACTITIONERS AND SOCIAL SECURITY Christian Science practitioners in the United States who have not previously elected coverage under the OASDI provisions of the Social Security Act are advised that the time limit for electing such coverage has been extended to April 15, 1962, by Public Law 86—778. The decision whether or not to elect such coverage is one for individual determination.

NORMAL CLASS, 1961 The Normal class of the Board of Education, which was provided for by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, is held triennially in accordance with Article XXVI, Section 4, of the Manual of The Mother Church. It will meet in December, 1961.

From the Treasurer of The Mother Church Per Capita Tax is provided for by Mary Baker Eddy in the Manual of The Mother Church ( Art VIII, Sect 13 ), reading as follows "Every member of The Mother Church shall pay annually a per capita tax of not less than one dollar, which shall be forwarded each year to the Church Treasurer. " Payments may be sent during the year at any time between January 1 and December 31.

FROM THE DIRECTORS The question is sometimes asked, "Why is total abstinence from the use of alcohol and tobacco required of applicants for membership in The Mother Church?" The answer may be simply stated, Because their use in any degree is inconsistent with the teaching and practice of Christian Science as set forth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy. On page 454 of the textbook our beloved Leader writes, "It need not be added that the use of tobacco or intoxicating drinks is not in harmony with Christian Science.

ANNOUNCEMENT On September 22, 1960, we issued a "Call to Action," which rallied the entire Field to an unprecedented opportunity to enlarge the usefulness of The Christian Science Monitor, the great newspaper established by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. As a result the total new subscriptions now exceed 75,000, increasing the Monitor circulation by 44 per cent.
