One of the members of our branch church told me how she had been helping out the literature distribution committee. She felt impelled to take The Christian Science Monitor into some of the local high schools.
The Office of the Clerk has received calls and letters from Christian Scientists requesting advice and support for special meetings planned by individuals in the Field such as inspirational meetings, youth meetings, and practitioner workshops. We deeply appreciate the love for our Cause that motivates these requests, and have given careful consideration to them.
In all corners of the globe, opportunities abound to share Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. As the following examples indicate, readers of the book the world over are responding to the demand for its healing message.
A five-volume dictionary published in Tehran, called the most comprehensive to date by its compiler, is inclusive of Christian Science in some of its entries. Available in bookstores that stock Persian publications, The New Unabridged English-Persian Dictionary, edited by Abbas Aryanpur (Tehran: Amir-Kabir Publishing & Printing Institution, 1990), is an "attempt to bring our English-Persian vocabulary up to the present-day level of usage.
Students of the weekly Bible Lessons published in the Christian Science Quarterly are often interested in hearing how others study these Lessons and put what they learn into practice. Certainly there is no one right way to approach the Lesson, no formula.
Christian Science Sentinel —awake, attuned, animated Two special issues answer the question "How do I find healing?" Watch for the October 2 and November 13 issues of the Christian Science Sentinel , which will focus specifically on the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy as the sourcebooks for healing. The October 2 Sentinel (cover shown here) illustrates the practicality of Science and Health to the first-time reader through personal accounts of healing.
We welcome readers to submit convincing testimonies of Christian Science healing for publication. These accounts should be concise and persuasive, demonstrating clearly that Christian Science heals.
"Will you sign my application for membership?" Does your heart leap at the opportunity to help someone apply for membership in The Mother Church? In the Manual of The Mother Church , Mary Baker Eddy gives every member this privilege: "Only members of The Mother Church are qualified to approve for membership individuals who are known to them to be Christians, and faithful, loyal students of the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( Art. VI, Sect.
Think for a moment about who in your community is looking for help. Perhaps it's a single parent who wants to nurture spiritual values in a teenager.
September 1895 saw a compact but widely applicable book published—the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, who had founded The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1879. The book is much read, because it's more than a dignified demonstration of spiritual law and order in church government, the appointment of officers, and the conduct of church services.
