A Joyous discovery awaits everyone who begins the study of Christian Science. To grasp the ideas contained in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, casual reading is not enough.
Over two hundred times throughout the Bible the word covenant occurs. Occasionally it refers to a covenant between individuals, as for instance the covenant between David and Jonathan and the covenant between Joshua and the children of Israel; but usually it refers to God's covenant with man, God's sacred pledge of love and care for His children.
Early in the first century of the Christian era, groups of individuals gathered together for prayer, discussion, and the reading of the Scriptures. Many of these individuals had witnessed, and many had experienced, the glorious healing works of Christ Jesus.
What does God's absoluteness mean? According to a dictionary the word absolute means complete, free from imperfection, limits, restrictions, or mixture. Using this word in connection with God, we gain some idea of His infinity, supremacy, completeness, and purity.
In the changing world of today people in many lands are concerned with the problem of incentives. So governments and associations of employers and employed turn to the consideration of how best to provide the incentive which will persuade the individual to do his duty, his job, honestly, faithfully, joyously.
Tenderly , persuasively, the Master spoke: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
" God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God," sang the Psalmist ( Ps. 62:11 ).
The deific Principle underlying all demonstration in Christian Science is concisely stated by Mary Baker Eddy in "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. " Referring in "Miscellaneous Writings" to these divinely inspired words, Mrs.
" The Lord God omnipotent reigneth" ( Rev. 19:6 ).
These are important days for the Christian Scientist. Bombarded from every side with rumors of further war and dissension, intimations of hate and greed, suggestions of sin, sickness, disease, and death, the genuine Christian Scientist is constantly aware of the importance of emphasizing good in his every word and deed and is constantly alert to meet all adverse suggestions with inspiring truths as revealed by Christian Science.
