THE COMFORT OF THE MOTHER CHURCH

From the June 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the Scriptures we read (Isa. 66:13), "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem." Mary Baker Eddy established The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, to bring healing and comfort to the sick and sorrowing and to destroy error through the spiritual understanding of perfect God and perfect man. She was aware of the world's great need for compassion, hope, and healing and knew that a clear understanding of God, divine Love, and of the real man would bring harmony, joy, and health into the present experience of all. She saw heaven, harmony, at hand— not afar off.

On page 583 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our Leader gives the following definition of "Church":

"The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.
