THE ALL-SEEING MIND

From the June 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Is not sight a faculty of the all-seeing Mind?" The writer well remembers the startling clearness with which this vital question penetrated a somewhat darkened consciousness. The results were inspiring and uplifting, bringing into her experience a renewal of vision and freedom from mesmeric thralldom which threatened serious impairment of sight. The pondering of this question has since repeatedly proved of great benefit not only to herself but also to others.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy gives us this definition of God p. 587): "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle: Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." To dwell on and realize in ever so slight a degree the great spiritual import of this definition uplifts one's thought and frees it from any thralldom of the material senses.

Man, made in the image and likeness of God is spiritual and not material. Man's vision is God-bestowed and thus belongs to you and to me. Spiritual perception enables us to discern between good and evil, the real and the unreal. Through it we can know Spirit as All and matter as nothing. True sight is God-sustained and eternally present. As we gain a spiritual understanding of this fact, our sight is preserved or restored.
