One of humanity's chief needs is to realize the infinite source and scope of intelligence, and Christian Science is meeting this need. Countless individuals have been and are being freed from the meshes of inadequacy, iniquity, and insanity, through the spiritual understanding of the perfection of God and His perfect man—perfect divine Mind and its perfect divine idea.
God, Spirit, who created all, comprehends all to be as spiritual and perfect as He made it. The harmony and perfection of man, the expression of God, is intact, unopposable, and everlastingly evident.
In speaking of Jesus, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p. 26 ), "His mission was to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does for man.
" Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine" ( Luke 15:31 ). This teaching of Christ Jesus, in the parable of the prodigal son, expressing the fact of the Father's abundant provision for His son, constitutes the basis for the demonstration of supply for every human need.
When James VI of Scotland became James I of England in 1603, the Church of England was no longer under the Pope, but the English monarch was the supreme head. In her book "Retrospection and Introspection," our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, makes the arresting statement ( p. 58 ): "With our Master, life was not merely a sense of existence, but an accompanying sense of power that subdued matter and brought to light immortality, insomuch that the people 'were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
In days of famine the Israelites of old demonstrated on many occasions that God is the only real source of supply. Throughout the Psalms many references are made to the fact that all that is good and true must stem from the one and only origin, God.
Some day! How often we have used this expression in voicing a fond hope or cherished desire! Some day, when we have worked out our problem, we shall have better health or better business. Some day our spiritual understanding may increase to the point where we shall experience release from the myriad forms of discord that present themselves.
