"Beloved, let us love one another. . . . And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also" (I John 4:7, 21).
As we become more aware of God as infinite, all-embracing Love, we understand more clearly the divine nature of Love and its omnipotence. We come to know that the way of Love is the one and only way, and that in expressing love for God and proving our at-one-ment with Him we must continually reflect love toward our brother man. Only as we daily demonstrate love for all of God's children are we manifesting our individual at-one-ment with divine Principle. In another verse of the chapter quoted, the beloved disciple asks this question: "He that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?"
On page 250 of "Miscellaneous Writings" our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says, "Love cannot be a mere abstraction, or goodness without activity and power." The Apostle Paul's declaration (Phil. 2:13), "It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure," may be paraphrased, "It is Love which worketh in you." The love which is felt must be actively expressed, or it availeth not much. Love is not apathy, but interest; not lethargy, but energy; not inertia, but initiative; not static, but dynamic. It is the living, life-giving power of God.
