THE CHRISTLY ACTIVITY OF OUR READING ROOMS

From the April 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christ, Truth, entering into the experience of mankind, constitutes the only way of salvation from all evil, and is the paramount need of the entire world, since it offers surcease from suffering as well as the solution of every human problem. It lifts men and women from the material, bestial, selfish, narrow, egotistical, and limited beliefs of the human mind into an apprehension of man's true sonship with his Father-Mother God.

We learn in Christian Science that the redemption of mankind is brought about through the unfoldment of the Christ in human consciousness, that the Christ-light dawns in the thought made ready for its coming. Into the consciousness which has even slightly renounced faith in matter or been chastened by suffering, sorrow, or fear, the Christ may gain entrance. Thus the individual begins his ascent to the mount of revelation and true freedom.

Among those early prophets who discerned the Christ, Truth, and demonstrated it to a degree, Isaiah saw clearly the Saviour's inevitable appearing and thus foretold his coming (Isa. 9:6, 7): "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, . . . The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end." This envisagement eventuated in the life and works of the master Christian, Christ Jesus, who gave full evidence of spiritual power in his triumph over sin, disease, death, and the grave.
