Sometimes our human progress is impeded by stumbling blocks of one kind or another, obstructions to finding the harmony for which we hope and pray. The obstruction may take the form of a long-standing sickness, or a sin to which we are prone to cling; or it may appear to be a person, place, or thing which stands in the way of the solution of a difficulty.
Christian Science defines God as divine, infinite, eternal, and omnipresent Principle, Mind, Life, Truth, Love, Spirit, Soul. By the use of these synonymous terms we discern more clearly the nature of God and what His infinite being includes.
In a world harassed by conflict and by economic and political insecurity, men and women by the thousand have willingly sacrificed their personal comfort, their careers, even their lives, to defend the ideals of Christianity and freedom. How vital, then, is the necessity for every man and woman in time of so-called peace to be alert and vigilant that these ideals may not be lost or imperiled.
Luminous with power and spiritual vision, the Bible is recognized by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, as a primary source of equipment for our daily activity and progress. Studied from the standpoint of Christian Science, the Bible may be likened to the powerful voice of a modern radio operator guiding and directing the planes that fly in high altitudes and establishing protection for their safe arriving.
Spiritual consciousness is a sublime fortress. This consciousness inheres in divine Mind.
A Basic requirement for instantaneous healing is an acknowledgment and realization of God's infinite ever-presence and omnipotence. In Christian Science practice, the healing of both sin and sickness is coincidental with a clear realization of God's immediate presence.
" Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison" ( Matt. 5:25 ).
The eager student, as he progresses in his demonstration of Christian Science, is sometimes prone to feel pride in his successful proving rather than gratitude for divine guidance. It is mortal mind which prompts such elation, and not the spirit of Truth.
God, Spirit, divine Principle, is the source of all true government. This government is made available to individuals by right ideas which have been revealed through the ages as they were importunately sought.
The sacred writings which constitute the Bible are referred to in the first tenet of Christian Science, where the Discoverer and Founder of this Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes, "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 497 ).
