Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

THE DEBATERS GET SPIRITUAL PROOF

" Prof " hesitatingly unlocked his traveling bag in our hotel quarters. The three of us who were members of the college debating team looked at each other uneasily.

THE FRAGRANCE OF FORGIVENESS

When Jesus, speaking to his disciples, said ( John 15:12 ), "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you," the statement undoubtedly meant much more than the words would imply to the half-attentive hearer. Perhaps some of those whom Jesus taught, like some of us today who study Christian Science, found it difficult to be obedient to this command to "love one another.

SAFETY IN ACTIVE DUTY

Why are we concerned about our men in service abroad, and anxious lest we at home experience disease and other discords? Is it not the belief in vulnerable, unprotected corporeality which causes us to fear for ourselves and others? We could not fear for the safety of anyone if we knew him as an incorporeal, spiritual idea, whose high destiny is the God-maintained expression of good. Mary Baker Eddy, the inspired Leader of the Christian Science movement, tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p.

AS A MAN THINKETH

When the wise man in the book of Proverbs meditated upon the moral nature of man, he declared ( 23:7 ), "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he. " In Biblical literature the heart symbolizes the center of the affections, emotions, and desires.

HEALING THE HEART OF HUMANITY

Those who have felt the healing touch of the Christ can never doubt that God is Love, nor can they question the power of the Christ to redeem mankind from the thralldom of mortality, the belief of an existence apart from God, immortal Life. Had it not been for the Christly compassion and spiritual understanding which he expressed towards the multitudes who came to him for healing, the Master could not have delivered them from their infirmities, for words alone are powerless to heal.

THE ARK OF UNIVERSAL SAFETY

Earnest students of the Bible have found that many Scriptural passages, besides their beauty and historical significance, have a spiritual meaning and application, rich in comfort and inspiration. For example, in studying the Biblical account of Noah, we have the recorded fact that in obedience to divine command he built an ark as a place of safety from the destroying flood of waters.

HOW DO WE SEE MAN?

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says ( p. 409 ): "The real man is spiritual and immortal, but the mortal and imperfect so-called 'children of men' are counterfeits from the beginning, to be laid aside for the pure reality.

THE LESSON OF THE FIG TREE

In the Gospel of Matthew ( 21:19 ) it is recorded of Christ Jesus: "When he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS

We have heard much about self-righteousness, that quality which asserts personal justification on the authority of personal opinion. But is there a true sense of righteousness? Christian Science teaches that man derives his selfhood from God.

SPIRITUAL AWAKENESS IN OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL

Mary Baker Eddy , the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has lifted mankind's concept of church, with its ceremonies and creeds, from a material basis to the true idea of Church as "the structure of Truth and Love" ( Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 583 ).
