Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

JOHN THE FORERUNNER

JOHN THE BAPTIST played a most significant part in bringing about the transition from the Old Testament to the New, and may well be described as one of the chief links uniting the two volumes of our Bible. Born in a priestly household, he was still essentially a prophet, and so in himself he helped to heal the ancient breach between priesthood and prophecy so often apparent in the Old Testament, thus preparing for the broader and more tolerant Gospel of the New.

TRUST GOD

TO many there may come a sense of doubt, depression, discouragement, and failure. It may be over problems of sickness, of discord, or of supply, when human efforts, although perhaps well directed and earnestly applied, utterly fail.

"WHAT DOEST THOU HERE?"

ELIJAH the Tishbite, a prophet in Israel, is an outstanding character of the Bible, because of his great spiritual vision and moral courage. At one time in his experience, however, he became so frightened by the vindictive threats of Jezebel, a heathen queen of Israel, that he fled into the wilderness and sat under a juniper tree, apparently overcome with self-pity, fear, discouragement, and personal responsibility.

THE LOVING MINISTRY OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

WITH tender persuasion Christian Science is revealing to mankind the truth necessary for the correction of error, for the healing of the woes of the world. Because it is the law of God, Christian Science is irrevocable, its continuity unbroken, its healing power never impaired.

SCIENTIFIC PROTECTION AND DEFENSE

TODAY there is a call, perhaps more urgent than ever, for every student of Christian Science to use his spiritual understanding to protect himself and others from the aggressive suggestions which are claiming to be present. In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (pp.

SCIENTIFIC WAITING

THE Psalmist sang, "Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord" ( Psalms 27:14 ). One student of Christian Science was awakened to the necessity of learning to wait scientifically by a remark made by a co-worker.

"THOUSANDS OF ANGELS"

ON page 96 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, in a graphic passage, writes: "This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace.

EVIL CANNOT ELEVATE ITSELF

IN a museum in New York there hangs a painting of two whistling swans in graceful flight, flying away from a somewhat dark background toward the sunshine. They appear to be going higher and higher, with apparently nothing to hinder their ascent, no power to hold them back.

"EXALTED THOUGHT OR SPIRITUAL APPREHENSION"

THE Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," makes the following arresting statement ( p. 506 ): "Through divine Science, Spirit, God, unites understanding to eternal harmony.

PEACEMAKERS

THE Christian Scientist's deep desire is to contribute by his scientific prayers and Christian living to the great cause of world peace. He has learned through Christian Science that peace is already established, and that it is revealed to the individual as he awakens to the spiritual sense of being.
