Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

"STAND IN THE HOLY PLACE"

The world scene seems dark indeed to the material senses. But who has ever found reality by means of the material senses, or by accepting as fact what these senses say is taking place? And is it not reality that we desire? However cruel, however tragic, however threatening the situation that the lying voice of evil suggests to us, the lie can never cross from its realm of supposition into the realm of reality; it can never endanger God or His creation, His man.

IMPARTIAL LOVE

There is a tendency in the human heart to feel that good is more abundantly bestowed upon one than another; that happiness and all good things seem to fall into the lap of some, while others gain a meager amount of good through laborious effort and much deprivation. This attitude of thought arises from a false sense of things and a wrong concept of God, and sometimes seems to induce a feeling of injustice, self-justification, and resentment.

"THE COURSE OF TRUTH"

In the Glossary in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy has defined "river" ( p. 593 ) as "channel of thought," adding, "When smooth and unobstructed, it typifies the course of Truth; but muddy, foaming, and dashing, it is a type of error.

MAN

Christian Science presents to human thought an understanding of the true nature and being of man. Through revelation and reason Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, discerned man to be spiritual, now and always, as the likeness of Spirit, God.

THE NAMING OF THE "NEW TESTAMENT"

Students of the Bible are so familiar with the name "New Testament" that often they do not pause to consider its original meaning and true significance. It implies a definite relation to the Old Testament, but an equally definite distinction from it.

GUARDING THOUGHT

In the book of Proverbs are found these helpful admonitions for those who would seek guidance in true thinking and acting: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding," and, "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. " From these it is evident that our daily lives must be constantly guarded with the protecting armor of Godlike thoughts.

"YOU COMMAND THE SITUATION"

In the healing ministry of Christ Jesus, one demonstration of the power of God stands out with great significance. In the Gospels of Mark and Luke it is recorded that on a certain occasion when Jesus was thronged with the multitude seeking spiritual enlightenment and healing, there came to him one of the rulers of the synagogue whose name was Jairus, and who fell at the Master's feet earnestly beseeching him to come and heal his young daughter, who lay at home critically ill.

ON REMEDYING WORLD CONDITIONS

Certain statements by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, come to thought as of particular value in this period of world history. The following is one of them ( Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p.

DEDUCTION AND INDUCTION

Jesus said to Philip ( John 14:11 ), "Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. " In the study of any natural science both deductive and inductive methods of reasoning are used.

MAN'S ETERNAL INHERITANCE

In the opening verses of Peter's first epistle he gives praise to God for the hope of "an inheritance incorruptible, and undented, and that fadeth not away. " Evidently he was not referring to some far-off good, for he called it "a lively hope," one based on the example of Christ Jesus, and therefore actively usable.
