Mortals , having been taught to believe in an evil power, and to base their conclusions in regard to environment and circumstance solely upon the evidence furnished by material sense testimony, seem at every turn to encounter unsurmountable difficulties. They believe they have been placed in an unfriendly universe without their own consent, and that they are the victims of circumstances and laws over which they have no control.
Within the consciousness of even an earnest student of Christian Science, the argument may sometimes arise that he is discouraged. There is, of course, never any actual reason for this, since discouragement is only one of the many erroneous beliefs of the so-called human mind, having no power, presence, activity, nor foundation in Truth.
On some of the coins of the United States of America is the inscription, "In God We Trust. " This declaration should serve as a helpful admonition; for we should look to God for daily guidance, especially when, through the study of Christian Science, the nature of God is intelligently understood.
Security is essential to the progress of nations as well as of individuals. This security is dependable only when it is based upon divine power.
The simplicity of Christian Science is the simplicity of Godlikeness, of true childlikeness; it is symbolized by the blending purity of the stars, and of the song of birds. There is naught within this Science that confounds or confuses; it is free from all the subtlety of error; and it has no complexity that would disturb the honest endeavor of any seeker for Truth, for it has a welcome where one is at home with good.
Sometimes the cry of narrow-mindedness seems to induce men and women to lower what they know to be right standards. And yet the greatest teacher the world has ever known said, "Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life.

The character of David has been very variously estimated, exaggerated praise naturally producing a revulsion to the opposite extreme.
In four articles of this series there have been related twenty Christian Science healings that were effected by Mary Baker Eddy. One of the articles also included citations to places in her writings where she mentioned or related other instances in which she fulfilled the Christian mandate to heal.
