HISTORY furnishes a marvelous panorama of civilization's upward struggle from darkness to light, from the shackles of ignorance and slavery towards higher intelligence and a larger freedom. Each onward footstep along this pathway of progress has witnessed an ever increasing measure of good in human experience.
Man is the reflection of God, Mind, the eternal expression of divine Love; therefore, man is at-one with Love, knows what Love knows, feels only the impetus of Love, is attracted only by Love, and is forever fulfilling God's loving purpose. Remembering this, we cannot be made to listen to the argument of error that we live only to think of ourselves, and that if we can attain so-called material good we shall be willing to rest in it.
Our Master taught us to pray, "Thy will be done," and he declared that whosoever did God's will was his "brother, and sister, and mother. " On the other hand, the Bible, throughout the Old Testament and the New, is strong in its reprobation of the human will.
The writer of Ecclesiastes asserts, "Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment. " May we not assume that this commandment has been epitomized for us by our master Teacher and Way-shower in his Sermon on the Mount in the words, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you"? Many persons freely admit that it is a desirable and a helpful thing to be familiar with the teachings of the Bible, particularly with the life and mission of Christ Jesus; but ask them individually why they have made so little study of this great Book, and they may reply that they have never had time to study it, enumerating many excuses.

Problems which have presented themselves for solution—religious, national, or individual—may seem to have come at a time when circumstances have been such as to raise, in belief, an insurmountable barrier against further progress.

We must remind ourselves of this if we would obey Article VIII, Section 6, of the Church Manual , which requires of each member that he "defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind.
The Old Testament contains many directions for righteous living. Jesus and the apostles made practical application of these directions, exemplifying and augmenting them in word and deed, as may be found in the New Testament.
The real man is the child of God, the perfect idea of divine Mind, reflecting divine Love. Every human being, therefore, should love God and desire spiritual nutriment and spiritual inspiration.
