ROUSE, ye soldiers of the cross! " Here is an order for the Christian Scientist. God has called us, individually, to be obedient to His law. Think what it means to be called of God, to be given the understanding and the blessings which are ours as Christian Scientists! Every one of us can be so continually grateful for this message and summons that the siren calls or blasts of error cannot reach our thought to affect us. The Master made just such a demonstration, giving no response to erroneous suggestions; and we have this record of his words: "The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me."
As we have been called, through God's love for us, to this divine service, it rests with us as to what manner of soldiers we shall become. Are we shirkers, or are we battling for reality against unreality, against the mesmerism of evil? We must so arouse ourselves that we cannot be termed mental slackers.
Does every Christian Scientist realize what depends on him: that each must so cleanse the windows of his thought that the saving light of Truth which he reflects will shine upon and encourage others? The light of Truth enters in and floods individual consciousness the instant thought is opened to its ever-presence. Christ Jesus, by his teaching, living, and demonstration, wrote the doom of error; but following the time of Jesus, there came the so-called Dark Ages, and paucity of illumination continued to a great extent until 1866, when Christian Science was discovered by the heaven-touched consciousness of our dearly beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. Since then the destruction of error has moved on apace, brought about through the practice of alert Christian Scientists.
