When Jessie Barth was asked by the Journal to write about Christian Science treatment, she offered us this dialogue, which is based on conversations she's had with patients who have come to her for healing. When someone asks me to pray for him or her, I ask them, "Do you want prayer or do you want Christian Science treatment? "What's the difference?" they ask.

As I was saying goodbye to a Christian Science practitioner when I was just beginning to study this Science, I said, pointing to my inflamed eye, "If you can do anything about this, please do it. " I was asking for Christian Science treatment, though I didn't know much about it.

These are tough times for US workers. "Joblessness is right up there with war and terror as an ingredient contributing to the high national anxiety," Bob Herbert wrote in a New York Times op-ed column back in February.

Some time ago, when my husband had been teaching at a university for several years, his position came up for tenure. To our dismay, the vote was negative, and although several of his colleagues felt it had been unfair, we knew he had to leave the university at the end of the academic year, which was rapidly approaching.

Downsizing. Right-sizing.

When I heard that the 2003 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church & Conference would take place in Berlin, I was excited. And some questions came to mind—like, "What can I expect from this meeting? What makes it so important? Why is the meeting being held in Berlin, my hometown?" Despite the wonderful fact that I don't have to travel far to get to the meeting, I was so grateful that the overall theme will be Mary Baker Eddy's statement: "The fact remains, that the textbook of Christian Science is transforming the universe.
