Spiritual answers that heal

From the January 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

is a media consultant from Los Angeles, California. In this article she describes her spiritual journey and the way in which Science and Health answers many questions she's had about spirituality from the time she was a young girl.

FROM MY EARLIEST RECOLLECTION, I wanted to really know God—to feel close to God and to understand what my relationship is to God. My grammar school and high school years were spent in religious schools—12 years in all. Even at an early age, I was spiritual seeker. I was a part of most of the religious activities of the orthodox Christian church that my family belonged to, and went regularly to the worship services. I loved the liturgy and the ritual.

When I was twelve, my family and I celebrated my confirmation, an important Christian rite for young people in my church. This religious ceremony involved my answering some tough theological questions. I studied hard for the questions, and correctly answered them. I was very pleased with myself! I even began to dream about someday becoming a part of clergy of my church. Unfortunately, there were limited opportunities for women back then.
