We'd reached a point where there was nothing we could do but pray. The president had turned our once-democratic country of Kenya into a one-party state. Anyone who criticized the government was detained. And many were murdered. Not only that, the government was also very corrupt. This plunged many people into poverty. Crime increased. The number of street families grew. Slums began to mushroom. There was a great feeling of desperation. It felt like there was no hope for Kenya.
But rather than give up, the people of Kenya responded by praying. Everywhere, in almost every street, you would find people preaching and praying. Many social places like bars were converted into preaching places. Brothels were turned into houses of worship. Cinema halls were converted into churches.
As a Christian Scientist, I was also praying. I prayed about government, focusing on the idea that there is only one law: God's law. I knew that there is one supreme, infinite Creator governing everyone and everything. And this Creator's law is loving and just. I also knew that nothing has the power to oppose this law of God.
