The Unitarian Universalists

Most Religious Groups wouldn't embrace the label "heretic," but for the Unitarian Universalists, whose religion is founded on the concept of choice, this designation is in keeping with their faith. The group asserts that its members have always been heretics, which is how they explain their commitment to religious pluralism and their respect for and acceptance of all belief systems.

For many years now, the Journal's Bible Notes column has offered readers ideas for further study of Bible passages included in the weekly Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly. While many have enjoyed the feature, we've come to see over time that the column format necessarily limited the scope of the commentary—sometimes suggesting by default that one interpretation might be preferable to another, when in fact many other sources offered valid food for thought.

Hosea: His wife and his nation were unfaithful

According To The Old Testament Book that bears his name, Hosea, whose name means "May the Lord save," prophesied around 2750 years ago, in the mid-700s, BC, during the reigns of Israel's last two kings. These were the twilight years of Hosea's homeland, the Northern kingdom of Israel, a time of rapid moral decline when the worship of false gods was mixed with the worship of the one, true God.

A renowned brother and a box for bones

Last October a stunning archaeological find was made known to the world—an ossuary, or bone box, thought to contain the first written reference outside the Bible to Jesus Christ. The ossuary is believed to have once held the bones of James, the brother of Jesus.

Barbara Dossey on spirituality-based nursing

Dr. Barbara Dossey, one of the keynote speakers at the 16th Annual Westberg Parish Nurse Symposium shared some thoughts about spirituality with Elizabeth Beam who covered the conference for the Journal.

A parish nurse shares God's love

The Notion that certain illnesses are incurable is the greatest error that man is subject to today. In reality, he simply hasn't found a cure for the disease, and so he calls it incurable.
