At ten o'clock in the morning on March 24, 1603—just hours after Queen Elizabeth's passing —King James VI of Scotland, heir to the British throne, became King James I of England. Within hours, well-wishers from across the entire religious and political spectrum rushed northward to the Scottish border to greet the new king.

Troublesome situations can vary widely in type and severity. But whatever the problem, it often relates fundamentally to the belief that we can be deprived.

Probably the most comforting promise of both Old and New Testaments is that God is always with us. "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest"   Josh.

Sometimes , when praying for the healing of a difficult situation, we become so aware of God's comforting love surrounding us that the awareness of divine Love's presence is enough, by itself, to bring about the healing. But there are other times when a lot more is required of us—when we need to face a persistent difficulty with a strong, continuing conviction of spiritual truth and refuse to give up or give in until the healing comes.

In his Sermon on the Mount, recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, Christ Jesus warned the people to "beware of false prophets" who came to them "in sheep's clothing," but inwardly were "ravening wolves. " Many of these false prophets would ask Jesus to gain entrance for them into the kingdom of heaven.

At a time when I felt distant from God, when my lifestyle did little to embody a devotion to spirituality, I found myself hungry to go to church. I had been raised as a Christian Scientist but during college had become somewhat ambivalent about studying the Bible Lessons and going to church.

Most of us can probably recall having known someone for whom the life of Christ Jesus made a genuine difference, someone who deeply loved the Master and turned consistently to the gospel accounts of his life and teachings for guidance.
