Putting on record insights into the practice of Christian Science.

THE FAN

John the Baptist prophesied the coming of one "whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. " This vivid statement might seem alarming were it taken to refer to persons, but Christian Science interprets Scriptural metaphor scientifically.

READ, STUDY, PONDER

In the tenth chapter of Revelation, St. John used the simile of an angel "clothed with a cloud" and a rainbow "upon his head," and "in his hand a little book open.

A "LIFE-GIVING SPIRITUAL SHIELD"

The temptation to believe in evil as real is common to all mankind. The Apostle Paul said, in his letter to the Romans (7:19, 21) , "For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do," and, "I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

"THE CHURCH UNIVERSAL AND TRIUMPHANT"

One of the passages most frequently quoted by Christian Scientists from their textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"by Mary Baker Eddy, is the definition of "Church," found on page 583 . The first paragraph of this definition reads as follows: "Church.

THE PRESAGE OF PEACE

Even in the midst of opposing clamor, the presage of peace may be heard. "To presage" is defined as "to indicate by some present fact what is to come to pass.

LOYALTY TO CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

On page 260 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes, "Science reveals the possibility of achieving all good, and sets mortals at work to discover what God has already done.

PERPETUAL TEACHABLENESS

" The tree of the knowledge of good and evil" still dangles before the material senses its forbidden fruit of belief in intelligent matter. Christian Science does not present the picture of a personal God who dispenses health and sickness, trouble and prosperity, according to merit or demerit, and makes use of evil as a disciplinary measure.

PAUL'S "HYMN TO LOVE"

The thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians has been called "St. Paul's Hymn to Love," and has also been referred to as "a lyrical interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount—the Beatitudes set to music.

"THE SHADOW OF HIS RIGHT HAND"

Under the marginal heading, "Christ's mission," on page 233 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "Already the shadow of His right hand rests upon the hour.

NOTICE

NEW PRICES FOR OUR PERIODICALS It is commonly known that during recent months, prices of many commodities have substantially increased. This is especially true of the printing industry, particularly of that branch involved in the publication of newspapers.
