NEW HYMNS OF GLADNESS

Why should we sorrow when God made no sorrow, Shed piteous tears when there's no truth in weeping, Holding false fears for an unknown tomorrow, When All is now— and time but mortal sleeping? So long, it seems, I've waited, Lord, So wearily the days pass by, And still my demonstration lags— Wilt Thou not hear and heed my cry? THE GIFT

Give me a singing heart, O God, And I shall see Beauty in common things— The daily round; the whispering tree; Colors in earth and sky; The sunset's glow; Bird song and butterfly; The flowers that grow On hill and lea. LIFE

If I can fill my place, calm and serene And go through life with loving, kindly mien; If I can live to show some other soul The way to peace, the universal goal; Then though my days be shorn of worldly gain, I shall not feel that I have lived in vain.
