Testimonies of Healing
Some years ago it became increasingly difficult to move the wrist and thumb of one hand without pain. My workdays were very full and I was managing OK, so I didn’t give it much thought.
One morning in spring 2022, during my time serving as First Reader of my branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I woke up to find it difficult to walk. I was unable to move one leg at all without intense pain.
Each day brings added proofs that God is indeed “our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” as the psalmist described ( Psalms 46:1 ). This was evident last summer after I accidently deeply cut my foot on thick broken glass left outside a store when I was wearing thin-soled flip-flops.
Several years ago, after I’d returned home from my annual Christian Science students’ association meeting, I became very ill with flu symptoms. I wondered how this could happen, especially after a meeting that was filled with powerful and inspiring messages about God’s goodness.
While walking my dog one winter morning, I slipped on an icy patch on our driveway and fell face-first on the asphalt. I was able to crawl to a dry area, stand up, and walk back inside, but my wrists and knee were in pain, and it was difficult to walk, bend my knee, or use my hands freely.
I am so grateful to Mary Baker Eddy. Along with her discovery and founding of Christian Science, she had such foresight to include an avenue of spiritual growth for those desiring a deeper understanding of this rich and fulfilling religion.
I wanted to join a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Why? Because I’d had a healing through relying on Christian Science.
One day I felt a severe pain in my abdomen. The pain persisted and became alarming, so I prayed with the support of a Christian Science practitioner.
Healing comes at times when we need it most. We are never separate from God, divine Love, and this thought of God’s presence became clear to me one evening.
“The best sermon ever preached is Truth practised and demonstrated by the destruction of sin, sickness, and death,” writes Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures ( p. 201 ).
