Testimonies of Healing
When I was in college and came home for Christmas break, one Sunday morning I decided to make some tea. Our family had just moved to a new house and the kitchen was unfamiliar to me.
Several years ago, I awoke on a Monday morning with discomfort in my back. Both lying down and sitting up were very uncomfortable.
Lately, I have been praying with this instruction that Mary Baker Eddy gives: “The human history needs to be revised, and the material record expunged” ( Retrospection and Introspection, p. 22 ).
A couple of summers ago , I was running on a particularly hot day and suddenly started to feel so overwhelmingly tired that it seemed as though I would pass out. I slowed my pace and quieted my fears in order to listen for ideas from God, divine Mind.
One morning, I began to feel acute pain in my abdomen. Though it was hard for me to speak, I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to pray for me.
For several years I was troubled by an unhappy marriage and resentful of my husband’s inconsistent treatment of our children and me—being kind and loving one minute and mean and demeaning the next. Since I was someone who liked to please, I wrongly allowed my husband’s dominance and put-downs to rule the family.
For about twenty years I dealt with bleeding hemorrhoids. About every three months they bled profusely.
I wish to express gratitude for the lifetime of insight, peace, and healing I have gained from my study and practice of Christian Science. As a fifth-generation Christian Scientist, I appreciate the guidance I received from family members during my younger days, as well as all I’ve learned through my own study and practice of Christian Science.
My gratitude prompts me to share what took place a few years ago after human impulse overtook wisdom and I intervened in an aggressive three-dog fight. As I attempted to separate the animals, I was severely bitten, and my hand was badly mauled.
One morning as I started to get out of bed, I found I could not put any weight on one leg. I’d been dealing with discomfort in my knee for some time, but I hadn’t given it much thought.
