I wanted to join a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Why? Because I’d had a healing through relying on Christian Science.
A physician had given me a dire diagnosis and recommended surgery. I called my mom, who was a Christian Scientist, and told her I was scheduled to have surgery the next morning.
I’d had many healings growing up, and that evening my mom gave me a thought I could ponder throughout the night. It’s from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal” (p. 151). And I remembered what I had been taught in Sunday School from the Bible: “God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). I knew God knew me as whole and well, just as He had made me.
