Testimonies of Healing

IN MY YOUTH, school friends queried me with "what ifs" about my religion. "What if you broke your leg? What would you do?" "What if you had an incurable disease?" At that time I attended a Christian Science Sunday School where I learned about God and my relationship to Him.

ONE DAY, about fifteen years ago, I started to feel ill while at home, so I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. While I had heard of such things happening to others, I was nevertheless amazed when I became instantly well upon hearing the practitioner's loving "hello" when she answered the phone.

A FEW YEARS AGO I experienced severe pain in my face that affected my mouth, jaws, ears, and eyes. One night, suffering greatly, I heard my wife putting our toddler to bed, and realized I should be helping to get the other children upstairs.

AS I LIVED SECLUDED within the walls of my mind, shut away with only negative, unhappy thoughts haunting me, my fingers bled from long hours of my biting my nails, a habit I acquired as a young child. I'm not certain why I did this, but it seemed to help calm me.

WHEN ONE OF OUR DAUGHTERS was in fourth grade, she had a severe skin condition covering most of her body. She was unable to attend school for a couple of weeks, but since our family had always relied on Christian Science healing, I was confident we could do so now—since she was cheerful, alert, and ready to see God's love for her.

WE LIVE IN A TALL, NARROW townhouse in London, and when it got more and more difficult to navigate up and down the flights of stairs, I knew I needed help. For months I'd been experiencing stiffness, swelling, and pain in one knee, and though at first I hadn't given it much thought, it was time to call a Christian Science practitioner to support me in prayer.

GROWING UP as a Christian Scientist, I learned that God, our true Father and Mother, created me and that I include only what He gives. Science and Health explains that we each reflect all aspects of His/Her nature.

THE WONDERFUL THING about a Christian Science healing is that it leaves you not only well, but with some new insight or understanding about your relationship with God. And often, that's the most memorable part of the healing.

WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I were expecting our first baby, we found a wonderful doctor to attend the birth. Fairly early on in the pregnancy we met with him and talked frankly for about an hour and a half.

I WAS RAISED IN A HOME where we relied on Christian Science treatment to heal our problems. Our parents took us to the Christian Science Sunday School where I learned about the all-loving God, who is Love itself.
