Testimonies of Healing
I am thankful to Christian Science for an interpretation of the Scriptures which has removed many of the mysteries and given me an understanding of God that I can reconcile with my common sense. I find in it an every-day religion to be practised in place of a Sunday one to be preached, and in proportion as I have lived up to my highest understanding, God's infinite supply of good has been opened up to me.
I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to God for what Christian Science has done for me. It is now about eight years since this truth found me.
At the age of sixteen I was thrown from a carriage, thereby injuring my spine so seriously that for fifteen years after I never knew what it was to have a perfectly well day, having pain in the head and back much of the time, and almost constantly during the last two of the fifteen years. Three years prior to my coming into a knowledge of the truth, I was in such a condition that it was thought a trip to relatives in Iowa might be beneficial.
In 1905 I asked for treatment in Christian Science for stomach trouble, and also commenced the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. " Before this my health had for years been very poor.
Prompted by a reeling of gratitude, I take pleasure in making partial mention of the gain I have made, morally, mentally, and physically, through the knowledge of the truth as conveyed to us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
IN 1863, while a boy in college, I was attacked by a fever, from which I suffered greatly, and which left me with a badly diseased leg. I had an operation for this performed at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1868, and was told that the bone would give me no more trouble, but that some day the veins would cause me much suffering.
I give my testimony with a heart overflowing with joy and thanksgiving to God for all His goodness and mercy to His children, with an earnest prayer that it may turn some other weary wanderer, in search of "living water," to this haven of rest in divine Science. I thank God for our beloved Leader, Mrs.
About the middle of November, 1906, I was taken with a dreaded illness. I was at home and in bed for three weeks, and as I became worse was finally taken to a hospital.
While living in Boston, many years ago, I first heard of mental healing. My interest was aroused, for I had been a semiinvalid for three years, and I was anxious to find relief from my misery.
I was so much helped and cheered in the beginning of my experience with Christian Science by the testimonies in our periodicals that I trust this one may also be of use to some sufferer. Many years ago I had a very serious illness, which brought me nearly to death's door.
