Testimonies of Healing

I do not think that any one has greater cause to be grateful for Christian Science than I have. I could not command words to say how much this wonderful truth has done for me in the last eight years.

Although it is many years since I found health in Christian Science, that experience remains one of the most wonderful events in my life, and I now send an account of it with renewed thankfulness. For ten years I had been an invalid, seeking relief from various physicians and methods of cure, and from travel at home and abroad.

Four years ago I was convinced that I could live but a short time, and the dulness of despair was so unbearable that I felt but one regret, and that was the sorrow my death would bring to my family. Within two years I had lost four sisters from tuberculosis, two of them having died within one week, and from the standpoint of materia medica my own condition was very alarming.

Shortly after our family physician, who had attended us for thirty years, passed away, Christian Science was brought to my notice. I read Science and Health, but merely from curiosity, little thinking that it would fill a long-felt want.

Since Christian Science was brought to me, two and a half years ago, my blessings have indeed been manifold. Before that time I was sick in body and despondent in mind, while now I am well, strong, and happy.

Three years ago I was effectually debarred from any kind of clerical work by an eye trouble which the doctors called hypermetropia, and astigmatism which was of some fifteen years' standing. During the last six years, I had "suffered many things" from some of the best-known eye specialists in this State, but grew steadily worse.

In June, 1903, it was for the first time my privilege and pleasure to be present at the Wednesday evening service of The Mother Church in Boston. The understanding of God, as taught in Christian Science, has brought me many blessings, for any one of which I would owe it endless homage.

Unlike many who have sought refuge under the shadow of this great Rock, Truth, I was not drawn thither through a desire for physical healing. On the contrary, I rather spurned the idea that anything other than drugs and hygiene is able to accomplish the healing of the body.

I have in many ways acknowledged benefits received through Christian Science, and my heart is brimful of gratitude as I recount the blessings which are mine, and which have come to many dear ones through this understanding of Truth. Seventeen years ago I first learned of Christian Science when I was healed by it of a serious trouble, for which two physicians had recommended surgery.

Christian Science healed me seven years ago, in San Diego, California, when in the last stages of consumption. I had previously spent a winter in Florida, and then, as my one last chance for recovery, I had been sent to the warm and equable climate of the Pacific coast.
